There’s no one way to become a successful property investor. Everyone takes a different path to get there, and everyone has different reasons for getting there. Take Michael Brooks, the South Australian Branch Manager and Property Mentor for Property Club. His journey to becoming a successful property investor was long and, at times, deeply frustrating, but he stuck it out and was able to reach his current position of strength.
Hopefully, his story can be an inspiration to other budding property investors that perseverance and the right support network – like the one Michael found at Property Club – are sometimes all you need for your goals to be achieved.
The Early Inspiration for Becoming a Property Investor Back in 2014, Michael and his wife Briony started on a journey to learn as much about property investment as possible. They wanted to support their young family, and although both had good jobs, they knew it wasn’t enough to support the kind of lifestyle they wanted. They wanted to ensure they had enough money later in life to provide a comfortable lifestyle for their children, as well as for themselves once they reached retirement.
Initially, they weren’t particularly keen on property investment but felt as though it was a safer choice than investing in shares. They read all the books they could find on property investment – some of which they still refer to today – and attended as many property seminars as they could.
The Setbacks Along the Way While Michael and Briony were getting more and more excited about becoming property investors, they were also getting more and more disheartened by the lack of potential strategies that worked for them. They wanted to own property that would increase in value but cost them very little out of their own pockets.
Michael looked at strategies involving positive cash flow and defence housing during his research, while also looking at firms that built properties for investors. However, he was never convinced that those firms would be there for him if or when an issue arose.
These firms would run workshops that had plenty of people attend and were filled with lots of hype, but would never deliver. They would ask the attendees to purchase properties on the outer edge of the metro area in new estates with new land all around them. Michael and Briony knew enough at this point to know that wasn’t a worthwhile gamble.
Breaking Through as a Property Investor In many ways, it felt like Michael and Briony kept on finding dead ends in their pursuit to become property investors. That’s when Michael heard about Property Club after an interaction at work. He then attended a low-key Property Club presentation from a real investor on his own journey, which was incredibly refreshing after listening to paid salespeople for so long.
Michael and Briony decided to join the Club and they have never looked back since. The Club has offered them valuable resources, advice, and mentorship to help them find and purchase the right investment properties.
They found the Club’s transparency to be refreshing and extremely beneficial in making the right investment decisions. If there were negatives to a certain property, the Club would make them known to Michael so he wouldn’t make a choice that he would regret down the road.
Today, Michael has stepped up into the role of mentor and South Australian Branch Manager for Property Club. Even though it wasn’t smooth sailing to get there, ever since he and Briony became members, they have seen their dream of becoming successful property investors fulfilled.
